The story of Two Harbours

Updated: Jul 12

One of my favorite places in Minnesota is Deluth.

A tourist destination for the Midwest, Duluth has the nation's only all-freshwater aquarium, the Great Lakes Aquarium; the Aerial Lift Bridge, which is adjacent to Canal Park and spans the Duluth Ship Canal into the Duluth–Superior harbor; and Minnesota Point (known locally as Park Point), the world's longest freshwater baymouth bar, spanning 6 miles (10 km). The city is also the starting point for vehicle trips touring the North Shore of Lake Superior toward Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Few miles from Deluth, is my other favorite place, located along the shore of Lake Superior, Two Harbors is the county seat of Lake County, Minnesota, United States. According to the 2020 census, there were 3,633 people living there. Two Harbors is located along Minnesota State Highway 61. 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Gooseberry Falls State Park is Gooseberry Falls State Park. The city is home to a cargo shipping port for mined iron ore.

Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area[a] and the third-largest by volume, holding 10% of the world's surface fresh water. Located in central North America, it is the northernmost and westernmost of the Great Lakes of North America, straddling the Canada–United States border with the Canadian province of Ontario to the north and east and the U.S. states of Minnesota to the west and Wisconsin and Michigan to the south. It drains into Lake Huron via St. Marys River, then through the lower Great Lakes to the St. Lawrence River and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean.

We stayed at the Grand Superior Lodge and had a wonderful stay. The food was delicious and the views were spectacular.
